In 1979 Goldsmith wrote songs, played keys and sang with the longtime San Francisco Bay Area band, Stoneground on Warner-Curb Records and worked with Bob Gaudio, formerly the creator/original member/songwriter of The Four Seasons and thus the force behind Jersey Boys. Bob also produced the Stoneground album. Some of the songs co-written with Gaudio would later be included on Frankie Valli’s solo album, Grease….Is The Word plus a few cuts were included on various Four Seasons albums. From 1984 to 1985 Lenny Goldsmith became lead singer with Tower of Power, the legendary funk band from Oakland CA. Their highest-charting songs include "You're Still a Young Man", "So Very Hard to Go", "Soul With a Capital S", "Soul Vaccination", "What Is Hip?", and "Don't Change Horses (In The Middle Of A Stream)”. Goldsmith initially used mostly young musicians on the first two CDs including his two youngest sons’ band members in Dawes, Blake Mills (guitar), sax player Jerry Peterson who plays with Billy & The Beaters, Kim Carnes, and many more.  Jerry additionally mastered his latest CDs, as well as playing and programming. Lenny’s band, The New Old currently includes Tom Canning on keyboards (Al Jarreau’s musical director), John Woodhead on guitars (who has played with Ace, Maria Muldaur, the late Leon Russell and many more) plus Emmy-winning filmmaker John Watkin also on guitar.  Dennis Kenmore is on drums and he played with the Corey Wells Band in the mid 60s.. he left just before they became Three Dog Night. Dave Batti is on bass (who has and continues to play with everybody). This amazing 14-piece band includes a full horn section led by Charley Pollard. Leslie, Sandra and Dakota Martinez provide all back-up vocals. For live shows Lenny and The New Old play original songs from his four CDs plus an eclectic array of rock ‘n soul funk from the 60s & 70s and even some Tower of Power!
