MIKE GARSON  (PIANO)

From Bach to Bowie, east coast to west coast, piano keyboards to computer keyboards, Mike Garson has worked to make the world a more creative, compassionate and compelling place. He remains a man of many talents and limitless inspiration. No artistic medium is off-limits to this avant-garde individual to whom the word “no” is quickly transformed into the word “now.”

Best known for his impressive skills as a pianist, he is a respected composer and an evolving computer artist. Embracing the idea of the “Renaissance Man,” Mike continually experiments with new ways through which he can communicate his humanistic ideals and hopes for the world in which he lives.

In his youth, Mike studied classical composition with Leonard Eisner of Juilliard and earned degrees in Music and Education from Brooklyn College. He also studied with Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Hal Overton, Robert Starer and Lennie Tristano. He has played with Stanley Clarke, Elvin Jones, Lee Konitz, Stan Getz and Freddie Hubbard.

As a composer Mike has composed over 6000 pieces of music.
He has created his own movement of music called NOW music based on many decades of improvised music thus playing how he feels in any given moment.

Mike is perhaps best known for his relationship with David Bowie, which began in late 1972. He made his mark on 20 Bowie albums including ALADDIN SANE and has traveled thousands of miles on Bowie tours, including his 2003-04 "A Reality Tour," Bowie's first world tour in 20 years. In November 2006, Mike accompanied Bowie and Alicia Keys during a unique performance of "Changes" at an AIDS benefit in New York City which ended up being Bowie's final public U.S. performance.interesting to note is mike played over a thousand concerts with David.

Mike's solid reputation for creativity and quality has motivated many musicians to invite him to perform with and record on their albums including Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins, Ian Astbury, Simon Lebon, No Doubt, Nine Inch Nails, Perry Farrell, and Trent Reznor. Reznor featured Mike on several recent projects including the score to the film “Gone Girl” and the hit HBO series “Watchmen”.(in which the opening episode has 3 minutes of mikes wild piano playing)

Mike is currently preparing to embark on a new 42 date A Bowie Celebration world tour with fellow David Bowie alumni musicians with singers including Living Colour’s Corey Glover, actress/musician Evan Rachel Wood and various additional special guests who have in the past included the likes of Sting, Gary Oldman, Seal, Joe Elliot and more. DENNY SEIWELL (DRUMS)

When the music is great, and the artists at play are the tops in their field, Denny Seiwell is there! In a career that has travelled from the intimacy of New York’s most respected jazz clubs, to Rock’s biggest stadiums to countless sessions in the studio, Denny has proven himself one of the most respected musicians at work today.

Denny was 5 years old when his father introduced him to the drums; he turned professional musician while barely a teenager. A stint with the Navy Jazz Band after high school led to a year’s assignment in Chicago under the tutelage of the great Roy Knapp, legendary teacher to such masters as Buddy Rich and Louie Bellson.

Then came New York where Denny’s first job took him to the famed Half Note Jazz club playing with the Zoot Sims/Al Cohn Quintet. From there a string of studio work which established him as the Big Apple’s Premiere session Drummer.

Having played with the crËme de la crËme of the Jazz elite, Denny’s Rock-n-Roll resume is no less envious, beginning with an invitation from Paul McCartney to move to London and become a founding member of the post-Beatles phenomenon “WINGS.” Denny also toured with Wings playing on many of that era’s biggest hits, “My Love” and the Oscar nominated “Live and Let Die” to name a few. Other Highlights of Denny’s London years included work with Joe Cocker, Donovan, and The Who with the London Symphony Orchestra in their ground breaking version of the Rock Opera “Tommy.”

Denny’s Signature Drumming can be heard on records by Art Garfunkel, James Brown, Astrud Gilberto, Deniece Williams, Janis Joplin’s posthumous Farewell Song album, Billy Joel’s “Cold Spring Harbor” and McCartney’s “Ram”, “Wildlife” and “Red Rose Speedway” albums.

While playing on some of LA’s most prestigious TV and Film dates, his passion for music, his human spirit, his training and abilities have earned him the reputation as one of the industry’s most respected drummers.

 

JOHN CHIODINI (DRUMS)

Guitarist and composer John Chiodini began his performing career in clubs, recording studios and theaters throughout New England in the 1960's and 1970's. As a member of the Boston Pops Orchestra under Arthur Fiedler, John made numerous appearances in concerts and on recordings, including the long-running PBS television series "Evening At Pops".

In the early 1980's, he relocated to Los Angeles, touring, writing, and recording with Peggy Lee. His MCA recording entitled "Weightless" was critically acclaimed. He toured and recorded with Natalie Cole ("Unforgettable" tour). Other artists with whom John has toured and/or recorded include: Buddy DeFranco, Maynard Ferguson, Carl Andersen, Louis Bellson, Tony Bennett, Michael Bolton, Bobby Caldwell, Celine Dion, Dr. John, Arthur Hamilton, Shirley Horn, Lainie Kazan, Hubert Laws, Barry Manilow, Rebecca Parris, Terry Harrington, Diane Schuur, Nina Simone, Barbra Streisand, Nancy Wilson, Michael Buble...

As a session player in Los Angeles, John has numerous Motion Picture and TV credits. John is the father of Carolyn Chiodini-Cable of "Spotlit with Carolyn Cable (1999)"_, and _"Carolyn Cable Show (2009)"_.

 

EDWIN LIVINGSTON (BASS)

Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Edwin Livingston was exposed early in his life to music. He was in the choir and played saxophone in the symphonic band in his adolescence and joined the orchestra in high school. After receiving his B.M. in music performance he relocated several times in pursuit of new musical terrain. In his various travels he has played and recorded with many notable artists and masters. Livingston has performed and/or recorded with: Elvin Jones, Ellis, Delfeayo, and Jason Marsalis, The Headhunters, Los Hombres Calientes (Grammy nominated Latin Jazz album), Bill Summers, Munyungo Jackson, Donald Harrison, Jr., The Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Alvin Batiste, Ronnie, Eloise and Debra Laws, Lionel Loueke, D.J. Logic, David “Fathead” Newman, John Beasley, Otmaro Ruiz, Mike Garson, Justo Almario, Leni Stern, Kevin Toney of The Blackbyrds, Yellowjackets, Will Kennedy, Peter Erskine, Vince Wilburn, Jr., Jimmy Branly, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, Tootie Heath, Joe LaBarbera, Hot Buttered Rhythm, Gecko Turner, Henry Butler, James Clay, Barbara Morrison, Mary J. Blige, Justin Timberlake, Kelly Clarkson, Keiko Matsui, Sadao Watanabe, Queen Latifah, The Benjamin Wright Orchestra, Bob Mintzer, Melody Gardot, Natalie Cole and many others.

In addition to a full time playing, touring, and recording career he is an Assistant Professor at the USC Thornton School of Music in the jazz studies department, teaching bass and small ensembles.

Livingston has also appeared in several feature films, including Ray and Dreamgirls, and Low Down.

He has performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Today Show, Live with Regis and Kelly and the A & E show Private Sessions with Queen Latifah.

He has several CD’s as a leader performing original music, “The Edwin Livingston Group” and “Transitions.”

 

SHELBY FLINT:

Shelby Flint is one of few musicians to experiment with a myriad of musical directions and then focus on a deeply personal yet accessible style. Flint's first accomplishments came as one of the original teenage folk singer/songwriters. This portion of her career culminated when her first record on the Valiant label, “Angel On My Shoulder” reached Number One in the early 60's. Shelby had been studying classical piano and voice since the age of six, and as a young adult had been influenced by the pop and folk music so dominant at that time.

She then took time off to raise two daughters and do occasional studio work until the late 70's when her next creative period began. Having worked in the company of artists such as Mike Garson, Chick Corea, and Al Jarreau, Ms. Flint's own compositions and arrangements began to reflect the influences of jazz, latin, and R & B. Her songs have been recorded by Mark Lindsey, Thelma Houston and Nancy Sinatra, among others. In 1981, her work in the L.A. studios on albums, soundtracks such as Charlie Brown TV specials and films such as Disney’s “The Rescuers”, and Clint Eastwood’s “Breezy” as well as commericals earned her a NARAS "Most Valuable Player" nomination. The following year she released ” You've Been on My Mind“ (1982) featuring saxophonist Jerry Peterson (Kim Carnes, Billy Vera ), keyboardist Red Young , bassist Bill Bodine, drummer Denny Siewell (Paul McCartney & Wings), Jerry Steinholtz on percussion, and Flint herself on Fender-Rhodes. Although limited in it's distribution, ”You've Been on My Mind” continually sold out in record stores and the title cut as well as the hit "Mercury" were radio staples for years.

In addition to her own projects, Shelby has been successful in combining her talents with many other artists including Gregg Karukas and Tim Weston.

Shelby and Gregg's hit "I Keep it to Myself" (from Gregg's release “Sound of Emotion“ (1992) was featured on the Wave-Aid 6 compilation release which has sold over 80,000 copies nationwide. The next year, Shelby again collaborated with Gregg on "Spinning Dreams" from Gregg's “Summerhouse” CD which reached #1 on the Gavin National Adult Alternative Radio Chart.

Shelby and Gregg's next release, "Home for the Holidays is an all acoustic project that immediately gained massive air play on both Mainstream, and Contemporary Jazz formats upon its initial release in late '93. It features Gregg's innovative trio arrangements of holiday classics, and four originals written or co-written by Shelby. "Home .......should become a Christmas Jazz classic..and establish Shelby Flint as a singer and songwriter of the highest order". (Wayne Lee/Seasons JAZZIZ).

Shelby and Tim Weston (Wishful Thinking) also released “Providence” on Soul Coast/Nova records which features Peter Erskine, John Patitucci, Mitchell Forman, and John Beasley among others.

With rave notices from her appearances at festivals from Monterey to Catalina Island, and the recent release of her CD, “Yesterdays”, this year promises to open the world to the voice and talent of "everyones favorite singer / songwriter". — with Denny Seiwell.
