On December 4, 2017, California’s Thomas Fire began its devastating effects that has torn through hundreds of homes, destroyed over 273,400 acres of land, including 1,063 structures and another 280 that have been damaged. This is one of the largest blazes ever recorded in the state's history. Fueled by powerful winds and extraordinary dry weather conditions, the Thomas Fire has ravaged California, forcing hundreds of thousands of residents in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties to evacuate their homes without knowing what they will return to. Wind-whipped wildfires also raged through areas of northern Los Angeles, setting several homes ablaze near Bel Air and other exclusive neighborhoods including near the famed Getty Center and more. At its height, the Thomas Fire saw over 8,500 firefighters mobilized to fight it, which was the largest mobilization of firefighters for combating any wildfire in California history.
